Britax B-Pod vs Maxi Cosi Mico 12
Which is the Better Capsule?
Honest comparison by Melbourne’s most experienced car seat fitters.
Spoiler: The B-Pod wins for most families.
📍 Quick Jump to Section
The Britax Bpod Capsule is the latest capsule from Britax and we compare it to the Popular Maxi Cosi Mico Plus capsule. The Britax Bpod Capsule is major change for Britax moving away from the click and go adaptors attached to the capsule to a travel system that will allow prams such as the Uppababy Vista/ Cruz to easily attach to the Bpod baby capsule.
Summary – Price & Value Comparison
The key difference is that the Britax B-Pod comes in three variations — B-Pod Go, B-Pod Lite, and B-Pod Low Birth Weight (LBW). The Maxi Cosi Mico 12 has only one version.
This gives the B-Pod more flexible price points to suit different budgets. The B-Pod Go and Lite typically retail between $300–$450, while the LBW is $450–$550. The Maxi Cosi Mico 12 retails around $470–$500.
All three B-Pod variants are suitable for newborns up to 12 months, are lightweight (only 4.5 kg), and easy to carry. Considering all points below, the Britax B-Pod is the winning design.
Britax B-Pod vs Maxi Cosi Mico 12 – Honest Comparison

Recommended: The Britax Bpod Capsule for hire is available in 3 variations — Bpod Go, Bpod Lite and the Britax Low Birth Weight (LBW). All of the Britax Bpod Capsules come with the easy to install ClickTight Installation Method.
- ClickTight Installation – The fastest and most secure way to install. Even if someone removes the capsule, you can reinstall it correctly in seconds.
- Narrowest capsule on the market (43 cm) allowing three car seats to be installed. Compare this to Isofix where nearly every car only has 2 sets of Isofix points.
- Pram release on the Bpod is the same as the capsule release from the base. Maxi Cosi uses 2 buttons on the side. The Bpod is more natural and easier to use.
- Top tether on the Bpod sits well clear of the headrest making it easier in cars such as Mazda CX-5, Tesla, Volvo and Discovery. Maxi Cosi tether sits under the headrest.
- Removal from base: Bpod works smoothly even when tilted. Maxi Cosi often catches on the base when tilted as baby grows.
Installation – ClickTight vs LockTight
Britax B-Pod – ClickTight
The latest evolution in car seat safety. Extremely secure and very easy to install correctly every time. No need for extra locking clips.
Maxi Cosi Mico 12 – LockTight
Surprisingly easy to use, but still requires more care in many vehicles. Often needs additional locking clip for stability. Using a non-Isofix Maxi Cosi capsule is difficult and each capsule will need some sort of locking clip to keep it stable. This is where an experienced and accredited baby seat installation professional makes a big difference.
Adjustable Footer
The Maxi Cosi Mico 12 has an adjustable footer at the opposite end of the capsule and cannot properly take into account the depth of the car seat. In many cases the Mico 12 ends up sitting at the wrong angle. You may need to use a towel underneath to correct it.
The Britax B-Pod has 4 footer positions (maxing out at around 6 cm depth). This gives a much better and more accurate fit in more cars.

Removing the B-Pod Capsule
Removing the Bpod is very easy as the release lever is located at the back of the capsule in a natural position where your hand falls easily.
Unlike the Maxi Cosi Mico 12 capsule, where you must press a button upwards and pull out to release — a difficult operation for many parents.
“This is a huge plus for the parents as it makes it easier for them to use the baby capsule, there is no confusion. Additionally when the canopy is pushed all the way back it does not cover the lever. Another win for the Britax Bpod Capsule.”
Remove from the Pram
Britax B-Pod
A huge plus for the B-Pod is that to remove the capsule off the pram, you use the same release lever as the one used to take it off the base in the car. This makes removal easier and gives a more natural carry position.
No need to remember a different method — only one release lever.
Maxi Cosi Mico 12

You need to press 2 buttons on the front of the capsule and then change the carry position. This is less intuitive for many parents.
Britax B-Pod Carry Handle
The Britax B-Pod baby capsule has three positions: Carry, Rock and Sit. The multi-position carry handle makes it easy to use in your car, with a compatible stroller or on the go. The Sit position is suitable when you get home and want to let your child wake up naturally.
On the other hand, the Maxi Cosi Mico 12 capsule has the same number of positions.
The Top Tether
The B-Pod uses a hoop type top tether that is fixed to the stabilising bar. Being fixed means the top tether does not get lost when the capsule is shared between family members.
The hoop fits neatly into the restraining slot. Unlike the Unity which has two small slots on the side (many parents struggle with these), or the Maxi Cosi where you must attach the ring to the snap hook.
The buckle position on the B-Pod when tensioned sits well clear of the headrest, making it work easily in Volvo, Jeep, Tesla and Discovery without any modifications. Another clear win for the Britax B-Pod.

Which Capsule is Lighter?
The Britax B-Pod capsule weighs in at 4.5 kg (excluding the base). The Maxi Cosi Mico 12 weighs 5.3 kg (excluding the base).
Once again the Britax B-Pod is the lightest capsule on the market — especially important for low birth weight babies.
Fitting a Third Child in a Capsule?
When fitting a third seat or capsule into a car it is a task best left to an experienced and accredited fitter. Trying to install a Maxi Cosi Mico 12 is difficult because Isofix usually doesn’t work for a third seat, forcing you to use seatbelt installation.
The width of the Britax B-Pod is just 43–44 cm, making it one of the narrowest capsules available. This 1–2 cm difference can make a huge difference when trying to fit three across.
Harness Adjustment
On the Low Birth Weight B-Pod there are 4 harness positions (manual rethread). The Maxi Cosi Mico 12 has a 9-position easy-adjust harness which is very convenient — however many mothers report baby sweats a lot in the adjustable headrest.
Crotch Buckle
Both the Britax B-Pod and Maxi Cosi Mico 12 have 3 crotch buckle positions. Parents need to check which position best fits their child when placing them in the capsule.

Harness Adjustment
On the Low Birth Weight B-Pod capsule there are 4 positions (manual rethread). The Maxi Cosi Mico 12 capsule has a 9-position easy-adjust harness which is very convenient.
However, feedback from many mothers is that baby tends to sweat a lot when using the easy-adjust headrest on the Mico 12.
Crotch Buckle
Both the Britax B-Pod and the Maxi Cosi Mico 12 have 3 crotch buckle positions and both start in the middle position. When the child is bigger than average the buckle is moved forward. When smaller, it is moved closer to the back.
This is a manual operation and parents need to check how it fits their child when placing them in the capsule.
